Practicum
I completed a 170+ hour practicum at The Herman and Walter Samuelson Children's Hospital at Sinai. My practicum was structured with a different child life topic for each week discussed at a weekly meeting with child life specialists and students. I also completed weekly journals to reflect upon my experiences. Through my practicum, I gained more exposure to medical terminology and diagnoses, child life event planning and implementing, observing specialists providing procedural preparation and support, and refining my child development assessments

I completed a second 150+ hour practicum at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. My practicum was structured with a one week orientation, two 6 week rotations in endocrinology and radiology, and one elective week. During my practicum, I completed weekly journals, readings, and developmental worksheets, created and implemented therapeutic activities, introduced services to patients and families, and planned and ran a hospital wide luau. While on endocrinology I was exposed to a large population of new diabetics, and learned and observed the educational role of child life with these patients and families. While on radiology I was exposed to many preparations and distractions for IVs, sedation, CT scans, MRIs, and VCUGs. Overall, this second practicum furthered my confidence in my child life development and therapeutic play, as well as my interactions and introduction to services to patients and families.
