Amy L. Manger
Internship
I am currently completing a 600 hour, 15 week internship at Inova Children's Hospital. My internship is structured with one orientation week, one 7-week rotation in the Emergency Department (ED), one interim week, and one 6-week roation in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). During my intership I am completing weekly readings, journals, and inservices, as well as activity planning, psychosocial assessments, and case study presentations. While in the ED I was exposed to many different procedures, diagnostic teaching, traumas, and breavements. This gave me a great opportunity to grow my child life skills in quick prioritization, rapport building, psychological preparation, and procedural support. In the PICU my goals are to gain more experience with long-term rapport building, sibling support, therapeutic activties, and bereavements. For my internship project I am researching and gathering data to assess and validate the need for child life services in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Inova.
